Hi, my name is Lena Rasmussen

and I am mostly a self-taught artist from Vancouver Island, BC. I am a great procrastinator and I am always late for all my deadlines and appointments. I have read it is because the artist’s mind is just so busy with too many pictures and thoughts that we actually lose track of time 😉

I have gotten over a some of my procrastination and silly shyness to post some of my not so daily paintings. I have entered art exhibits. I have opened an Etsy shop. I am painting more. I couldn’t have done it without my two cat art critics Mr. Magoo and fat princess cat Miss Miso.

I really enjoy painting with lots of vivid colors. I finished this painting and  entered an art show called People’s Choice for February – First Friday exhibit at the Nanaimo Arts Council. I will be adding it to my etsy shop soon…

 

Confused: About the process of painting over another painting!

In my blog, I  share my confusing thought processes as I go through struggles trying to complete a painting.

“Obsessed!”

When an idea for a new painting comes to me, I  become obsessed, but slowly, not yet really aware, that this idea was maybe meant for me to do something about it.

Surface – Painting the surface and textures of rocks and barnacles found on the beach near Nanaimo, British Columbia

I have signed up for the ‘The Daily Post’ in hopes of improving my blogging and my writing skills.

I completed this painting a few years back. I tried to replicate the surfaces of the rocks and the textures of the sea barnacles onto the canvas I was painting on. I had taken photos of rocks by the ocean in beautiful Neck Point Park in Nanaimo, BC.

 

Transferring to wordpress from blogger took me hours of time…

I spent most of the afternoon trying to transfer my new custom domain name that I purchased on wordpress to blogger.

My first solo art show! Yay! I had the show several years ago, but I never figured out how to add it into my blog. Now I have and so here it is.

Red Poppy Paintings

Now I have finally added some of my poppy paintings. Well, so much for adding new stuff daily. I’ve already fallen behind. This will have to be a new daily habit for me, and it will take me some time to get used to doing it.

This sunflower painting is one I completed in 2008 for a Nanaimo Members only Art show. My favourite paints are Liquitex acrylic paints. I will be putting it up for sale sometime soon.
